West Las Vegas High School History

"In 1947 the West Las Vegas School System opened its first High School, which, at the time, became known as Town High. In those days, there were several "barrios" in Old Town and... it was risky, to say the least, to venture into a strange "barrio"...when Town High opened its doors to kids. Eventually, some of the hostility wore off and students and teams members became united and in our first year as a four-year High School, the football team went undefeated during the regular season.

The Dons did more than win games, they united our Community of West Las Vegas or "Old Town" as it was then called and it seemed that the whole population of West Las Vegas would turn out for the Dons Games and if you were lucky enough to be a Don everyone in Town knew you. Many Professional People that got their start and encouragement at our School, and I am proud to have been a part of the humble beginning of our School."

Robert E. Gallegos

Class of 1951

The shield and quill design has many points of significance. The shield points signify leadership, sociability, poise, and ambition. The shield itself signifies honor with strength, and security with dignity. The quill and the scroll signify the stability of the people through the ages. The winged sandals symbolize the ability to fly,

to succeed upward in society.
